On Episode 3 of Grab Your Popcorn, Blake reviews two recently released films, Atomic Blonde and The Emoji Movie.
Atomic Blonde stars Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road, Snow White and the Huntsman, and The Fate of the Furious) and James McAvoy (Split, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Victor Frankenstein) in a fun thrill ride of a movie.
Based on the graphic novel The Coldest City this film follows super spy Lorraine Broughton (Theron), an MI6 agent on a mission in Cold War era Berlin after a fellow operative is killed by Soviets while pursuing a valuable asset. Blake gave this movie 3.5/5 buckets due to its fast pace, fun action sequences, and the performances of Charlize Theron and James McAvoy.
The Emoji Movie stars TJ Miller (Deadpool, Silicon Valley) , James Corden (The Late Late Show), and Anna Faris (Scary Movie series, House Bunny) and it’s an absolute dumpster fire. TJ Miller plays Gene a “meh emoji” who displays too much emotion, which gets him into trouble with the other emojis.
Blake thought that this movie simply should not have been made. It is littered with lazy comedy, has an extremely lazy plot, and lacks real humor almost entirely. For these reasons and more Blake awarded this movie 0.25/5 buckets. The Emoji Movie has been the worst reviewed movie of 2017, and Blake holds nothing back in his analysis of the film on this episode.
